| This
workshop was inspired by the Washington
Old Time Fiddlers Association Workshop held each year in Kittitas,
Washington: a fun and intensive learning experience where participants
learn many new tunes and gain experience, affordable for entire families.
We are pleased to be able to hold this workshop again in 2006.
The first workshop in 2005 was a great success and people had lots
of fun.
Our workshop location is the Wallowa School, in the town of Wallowa,
Oregon (on the left of Highway 82 as you come in from La Grande
and Elgin). Classes will be held in the elementary school wing,
starting at 9 am Monday through Friday. Classes will meet for 5
hours each day, learning tunes chosen by the instructor. There
will be plenty of time for practice, jam sessions. On Friday afternoon,
July 14, classes will perform for each other.
After classes there will be optional short workshops and jam sessions,
and at least one evening there will be a public dance, with workshop
participants providing the music.
Workshop participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied
by a parent or responsible chaperone. Curfew is 11 pm: all workshop
participants under 18 must be in their own camp after 11. No alcohol,
drugs, or weapons permitted on school grounds. Please bring your
instrument(s) and accessories such as spare strings. Instructors
will be providing tablature, music notation, chord charts, and
other material, so bring a music stand.
FREE CAMPING!
On-site tent and RV camping (no hookups) is free to registered
participants and their families. You may arrive on Sunday, July
9, after 3 pm. Camping areas must be vacated by 11 am, Saturday,
July 15. Showers are available in the school's locker rooms (bring
your own towels). For those who do not wish to camp on the school
grounds, motels and RV parks are also available in the area (call
our Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce at 541-426-4622).
Wallowa Lake is 27 miles from the workshop site. There are many
other outdoor activities available in our mountain valley. Downtown
Wallowa is a block from the school, with cafes, library, grocery
stores, and the Wallowa History Center.
