It’s time to break through those winter blues! The WVMA
has just the cure Saturday night, January 28 at the Odd Fellows
Hall, with a warm and wonderful celebration of music and dance.
Not only will this evening feature some of our finest local talent,
but it will also serve as a fundraiser for a “Musical Mission
to Nicaragua” for some local volunteers. Local musician
Robyn Freatman, her sister Emily Fairchild and a few other friends
will be traveling to Nicaragua in February to teach music and
art to children in the remote village of Jiquilillo, and are
raising funds for purchase of instruments and supplies for their
volunteer mission. Their main focus will be on teaching violin,
harmonica and recorder.
The Jubilee on Saturday night will begin with a showcase of musicians,
including
some of the young folks who’ve attended the Musical Expressions for Youth
classes offered by the Music Alliance. Songwriter Madison Ribich, Piano stylist
Brady Goss, and multi-instrumentalist Hugh Donovan are among these.
Also slated to play a couple of songs are local favorites Carolyn Lochert, Jennie
Kay Snyder and Rod Ambroson, Robyn Freatman and Janis Carper. A special feature
of the evening will be a performance by of sons of soil reggae, followed by belly
dancing by Badawiya. After a brief intermission to indulge in some home-baked
goodies, you’ll be urged to get up and shake a leg (or other extremities)
when Al Bell and Friends take the stage, followed by Lack o’ the Irish
providing some toe-tappin’ tunes.
Donations will be accepted at the Jubilee, or you may send your check to the
WVMA at PO Box 148, Enterprise, OR 97828. |
